MUTA
Growing up, I coped with life's hardships by dissociating from what I couldn’t understand. Today, I use acrylic paint to confront past wounds and reconnect with myself. Through color and form, my work reflects on the emotional reality of living through adversity and the ongoing process of healing.
I draw from the visual techniques found in expressionism such as symbolism, dynamic brush work, and vivid colors to explore emotionally charged themes within my work. Skeletons, nudity, and red figures act as symbols of vulnerability and repressed aspects of my identity, Vivid colors and expressive brush marks convey complex feelings, while surreal elements portray my evolving sense of self through adversity. In this visual language, I work to understand the emotional impact my experiences had on me and continue the ongoing journey of empowering myself and finding closures through art.
Ultimately, my art is about the act of processing trauma and healing. It exists so the spectrum of emotion and hardships can be witnessed with care. Through sharing my work, I hope that others feel seen in their struggles and find comfort in the community of people who share their experiences.
